In short
- 01There is no universal best time; it depends on your audience.
- 02Instagram and Facebook both show when your followers are online.
- 03Start with an estimate based on how your customers live, then measure.
- 04Consistency matters more than the minute a post goes out.

Why there is no single best time
Neither Instagram nor Facebook shows posts chronologically. The algorithm picks what to show each person based on their interests. Posting time matters mainly in the first hour: when your followers are online, the post gets reactions sooner.
And when they are online depends on them. Parents on leave scroll at different times than office workers, and a roastery’s customers at different times than a fishing shop’s.
How to find your time on Instagram
Switch to a business or creator account if you have not yet. The guide Instagram for business shows how.
Open insights (the professional dashboard) from your profile.
In the follower section you will find the days and hours they are most active.
Post shortly before those times so the post is waiting when people arrive.
Follower insights only appear once you have a certain number of followers. If you cannot see them yet, start with the estimate below.
How to do it on Facebook
For a Facebook Page, insights are in Meta Business Suite. Look at when your previous posts got the most reactions and reach, and post at similar times. If Instagram and Facebook are connected the times are often similar, but check the data for both networks.
An estimate to start with
Until you have your own data, start from your customers’ ordinary day. When do they have a moment for their phone?
, if you sell to commuters.
, when many people scroll over lunch.
, typically for parents.
, for hobbies and leisure.
Try two or three times over several weeks, then compare the results. One post proves nothing.
How often to post
For a small online shop, a sensible start is two to four posts a week and a few stories. What matters is whether you can keep it up. Three posts every week bring more than ten posts once a month.
Frequently asked questions
- What is the best time to post on Instagram?
- When your followers are online. You will find it in the insights of a business or creator account. Generic tables online are based on other people’s accounts.
- Does the day of the week matter?
- It can, but again it depends on your audience. Insights also show the days your followers are most active. Weekends often work for leisure products, weekdays for B2B.
- Is it worth posting at night?
- Usually not, unless your customers scroll at night. The post gets buried before they see it.
